Welcome to the Bath SIAM-IMA Student Chapter!

About Us

We are the student chapter affiliated with both SIAM (the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) and the IMA (Institute for Mathematics and its Applications) at the University of Bath. We are run by a committee of PhD students from the maths department. We organise math-related events for our members, and overall provide the space for individuals interested in applied maths to meet, socialise, and form a community. Our society is open to students at the University of Bath from any discipline, but have a keen interest in maths and its application in the world!

How to Join

The Bath Student Chapter is open to students of the University of Bath and is free, as is joining SIAM as a student member (provided you have joined the Bath Student Chapter). It cost £10 to join the IMA as a full-time student. Please not that it is not necessary to join either of these societies to get involved with the Bath Student Chapter, however, we do encourage you to join at least one.

• To join the Bath student chapter: Please fill out our quick Google Form. We will add you to our mailing list, after which you will receive an email, officially affiliating you with the Bath Student Chapter! Note that it make take some time for you to receive this confirmation.


• To join SIAM: Once you are a member of the Bath student chapter, you can join SIAM on their website - be sure to select the University of Bath as your affiliated student chapter. Joining SIAM gives you exclusive access to SIAM journals, specialised SIAM activity groups and funding opportunities for conferences across the world.


• To join the IMA: Students are also welcome to become members of the IMA (PhD and Masters students are eligible for Affiliate Membership at the student rate of £10 per year whilst in full time education) and anyone can sign up for the free eStudent newsletter.
